On the difference between decoration and presence — and the objects that hold the room.
Every room has a piece that holds it — one object around which the rest of the composition arranges itself. Remove it and the room falls apart. Add it and the room becomes itself.
This is not decoration. Decoration is what happens when a room has been finished and there is still space on the walls. Presence is what happens when an object is placed first and the room composed around it.
The objects we curate are chosen with this role in mind. A single sculptural vessel, a hand-carved bowl, a monolithic stone — these are not accents. They are anchors.
The instruction to a designer is simple: fewer objects, better placed, each earning its ground. What is left out is as important as what is chosen.
